How to be “Hip”

To briefly introduce myself, I’m Min Gyu, Drake, Jang, an intern here at SOPHIE COMPANY. I am majoring in Fashion Business Management at the Fashion Institute of Technology. As can be inferred from the school and major I’m enrolled in, I love fashion, and love suggesting clothes for others; I’ve actually worked as a stylist as well. Today I would love to share my daily fashion in hopes that it could be helpful for those who have a hard time selecting clothes for themselves.

Jogger Pants

Jogger pants are one of the basic and fundamental items when it comes to “hip” fashion. As jogger pants can come in different sizes, colors, and details, numerous streetwear brands introduce new designs of jogger pants every season. Specifically, according to the color and detail of the product, it could blend into the total look as a basic item, or work as a statement piece.

Here, I have styled my outfit with a graphic t-shirt, jogger pants, sneakers, and a chain necklace. One of the most noticeable aspects of this outfit is how the overall tone of both the t-shirt and the jogger pants are matching. The total color mood is well balanced which gives a comfortable, casual feel. The point of this outfit is, of course, the jogger pants: the color and design of the jogger pants are rather unique.

For this look, the focus not only lies on the jogger pants, but the overall set-up of the outfit as the color is a uniform light grey. The unified tone is pleasing to the eye, and  I can look a bit taller than I actually am. Compared to the previous pants, these would be considered more jogger-like as there is an elastic at the bottom, giving a more sporty vibe overall. Lastly, by matching “ugly shoes” with a chain necklace, the overall look is “hip.”

Blazer Jacket

A blazer jacket is another key item that I couldn’t live without; during the spring and fall season, I mostly wear a blazer jacket as it could be used in various looks. People tend to think blazer jackets are only considered for occasions that they need to look “professional”, but blazer jackets can be worn on casual occasions; even “hip” styles are possible  with blazer jackets.

Okay. I know what you’re thinking: “another grey outfit?” Yes, I do love the color grey and the chic vibe that comes with it when worn.I want to point out that with this look, the blazer jacket makes the total look less streetwear, but actually more casual (somewhat professional too). The blazer matched with the jogger pants, and the uniform gray tone, gives it a casual yet professional vibe. As I said, blazer jackets are one of the key items that you must have in your closet.

For this look, it was actually a day that I needed to attend an important meeting, but an occasion where I could show my own style through  my outfit. As I wanted to make a statement and stand out among the people in the meeting, I selected a leopard printed shirt. I wanted to break the stereotype that blazers can only be considered professional, and wore a rather strong leopard shirt underneath it, unifying the whole outfit with one single color--black.

These two items and four different styles I’ve shared are the outfits that I enjoy wearing daily, and how I actually wear them to work as well. Hope you guys have enjoyed looking at the photos, and if you want to see more of my style, visit my Instagram by clicking on the button below:
