Summer Style Inspiration from your Favorite Idols!

Part 1: Daily Looks

Need to amp up your everyday summer style but not sure how? This summer’s kpop comebacks are full of great looks for you to reference!

Shall we take a look at how some of the hottest groups interpreted this season’s trends in their own unique ways?

BTS - “Permission to Dance”

After their hit song “Butter” topped the Billboard charts for a record-setting six weeks, the group dropped “Permission to Dance,” another feel-good summer song. The boys rocked refreshing white and denim--the unofficial uniform of summertime--with cowboy hats and boots. They carried the country influence into their second outfits in the form of Western shirts and chaps with fringe details that danced along with them.

Get the look: Don’t be afraid to try denim-on-denim in different silhouettes, accented by white shirts and leather bolero-inspired necklaces. If you’re feeling bold, try adding a cowboy boot or a piece with fringes.

Mamamoo - “Where Are We Now”

Mamamoo showed off two distinct concepts with a touch of nostalgia for their comeback “Where Are We Now.” They wore casual, easy to follow looks with comfy oversized t-shirts, loose jeans, and an assortment of footwear perfect for a summer camping trip. Meanwhile, in alternate cuts, they stood amongst trees in dramatic, flowing white evening gowns that would be perfect for a summer wedding and a bride looking for an unconventional dress.

Get the look: Unless you’re a bride-to-be this summer, the first concept is much more practical to follow for everyday outfits. Try shopping vintage to get perfectly faded tees and comfy, worn-in jeans!

OH MY GIRL - “Dun Dun Dance”

After sweeping the K-pop industry with their addictive track “Dolphin,” OH MY GIRL came back with “Dun Dun Dance,” an upbeat summer song. Matching the fresh vibe, they wore an assortment of denim bottoms–wide-leg jeans, shorts, skirts–with cropped tops and tube socks with Converse. Against a field of pink grass, they danced in a mix of black minidresses and white tops, paired with socks and chunky sneakers for a sporty twist.

Get the look: For these styles, any denim will do--top a pair of jeans or shorts off with a cropped t-shirt, and don’t forget the socks and sneakers!

Part 2: Special Occasion Looks

If you’re lucky enough to be attending a party or event this summer, don’t miss the chance to go over-the-top, pulling inspo from the bold and sparkly looks of these iconic idols!

TWICE - “Alcohol-Free”

Nine-member girl group TWICE embodied the “resort look” with bold colors, tube tops, and strappy sandals. The girls wore patterned scarves from luxury brands in every possible way: as tops, skirts, belts, and headbands, adding flair to solid-colored bodycon tops and shorts. Sandals and heels with lace-up details completed the looks, creating a fun vacation vibe.

Get the look: Try a large scarf with a colorful pattern--the bolder, the better--and get creative with how you wear it!

NCT Dream - “Hello Future”

Repackaging their first studio album, the NCT subunit showed off distinct concepts through “Hello Future.” Colorful tie-dye t-shirts with beaded jewellery and white lace-up combat boots created a modern psychedelia. They kept the look fresh for summer with saturated hues layered over crisp white bottoms. The second concept showed a nostalgic, preppy vibe through Comme des Garçons collared shirts in white, blue stripe, and red plaid patterns. Finally, the boys sported Dior looks with lots of layering, playing around with necklines, sleeve lengths, and patterns.

Get the look: A common thread runs through each of the three concepts: statement necklaces! Take a risk with thicker chains and heavier pendants to add interest to your outfits.

Aespa - “Next Level”

Bring your fashion to the “next level” by taking style cues from aespa’s sparkly, futuristic outfits. In one cut, the girls are wearing white tops and bottoms accented with oversized iridescent sequins and glittering gloves and jewelry. The over-the-top looks were grounded by white lace-up combat boots for an unexpected twist. The girls carried over the boots into their next concept, this time pairing them with sequined dresses and tops with gathers and sleeveless or off-the-shoulder details.

Get the look: Mix lace-up boots with shorts or miniskirts and asymmetrical tops with lots of sparkles for a futuristic party look.
