Internship Experience at SOPHIE COMPANY

What did you learn while working at SOPHIE COMPANY?

Bhavika: I learned so much through this internship, especially in the area of creativity. I have always considered myself to not be creative, but I was encouraged to come up with creative ideas regularly for the @glowiest.global tiktok account. I learned how to incorporate the brand’s products and its details onto several TikTok trends in creative and fun ways, and it turned out to be a success. Secondly, I learned about the importance of details, as I always focus on the big picture rather than details. For example, in writing Instagram captions, I learned how important it is to incorporate the right emoji with the right brand to match the theme. The wording varies depending on the brand you are writing captions for. SOPHIE COMPANY was an amazing experience, as it pushed me to be more creative and emphasize the importance of details.

Da Sol: It was my first experience working at a company, not a part-time job, so I think I realized how the company operates and what the marketing company does. For example, when marketing a product, in addition to advertising videos and uploading images or captions, there were a lot of things to do in detail, such as a clear understanding of ingredients, comparing new and old products, and analyzing the company image and so on.

How was the internship similar to your classes at school?

Bhavika: There are multiple similarities between the internship and classes in school. As I spent a lot of time understanding the target market, and competitors, and analyzing trends for various projects. I used the same knowledge and applied it to the real world. The format was completely different, as I used these strategies to understand the Tiktok trends and look at other competitor skin and beauty companies to help further gain a profit and grow our Tik Tok account. Secondly, a lot of times in our classes, we are encouraged to come up with our marketing and promotion strategies for several existing brands. This same concept was used for the glowiest. global Tiktok account as one of my roles was to find new ways to promote the products.

Da Sol: First of all, since I am majoring in fashion business, I learned a lot about fashion marketing, and I think it was a good experience to make good use of what I learned. The basic order is to always conduct an overall survey of the company (financial, history, competitor, product survey, trend, etc.) before starting marketing, and then proceed with product curating accordingly and evaluate the sales status. During this internship experience, I got used to curating products.

What was the most enjoyable part of the internship?

Bhavika: I had a lot of fun creating content for the Tiktok page, as I love watching Tiktok in my leisure time. It was fun being able to create the fun Tiktok trends and market the products at the same time. Also, it was fun being able to be goofy and fun for our TikToks on the regular office days. One of the most enjoyable memories was when we went to Central Park to film Tiktoks, and we wore the glowiest stickers on our faces and danced and promoted the ASAP patch. Secondly, I enjoyed modeling with the gua sha and the face roller as I enjoy modeling, and it was my first time modeling skincare products.

Da Sol: Among the main internship assignments, writing on Sophie Company's blog was the most interesting. In order to write, reading articles about Beauty, lifestyle, or fashion trends is really helpful, and thanks to this blog writing, I could learn what is the hot topic in the beauty industry and trends of fashion.

What are you most proud of accomplishing at SOPHIE COMPANY? Any favorite piece of work you’ve done?

Bhavika: I am really happy with the growth of glowiest. global TikTok, as when I first started the internship, the account had just been created. Now the account has over 500 followers and a total of 2713 likes. Also, three of our videos have over 2500 views with one video having 6,000 views. I am happy that I got to learn how to edit Tik Tok videos, and I got the confidence how to take an idea and deliver it on the app. I learned about the multiple functions of the Tiktok app, and now Tik Tok is the most popular app that companies are using to market their products and brand. Therefore, I am happy that I received a solid foundation on this app as it helped me become a better SNS marketer.

Da Sol: TikTok views were the most accomplishing. The fact that the video I created with Bahavica has a high view count made me proud to think that people can recognize the brand one more time thanks to our efforts.

How did you like testing and writing reviews of all the different products? Any new favorite brands you discovered?

Bhavika: I was nervous at first, as I had never done something like this before, but the more I did it it became easier and super fun! I had the opportunity to use multiple glowiest products and review them to create Tiktok videos. I used the ASAP patch in multiple popular dance videos, and I reviewed them as well! I love the ASAP Patch, as it is really a miracle worker. I have used the ASAP Bedtime patch several times, and my blemishes have disappeared in the morning. After using and reviewing the products, it is easier to promote them to fellow customers as you know everything about the product!

Da Sol: The brand Mom's Bath Receipt was impressive. It seems to have scarcity in that it is a brand that can promote Korean bath culture through certain products.

What’s the best thing about SOPHIE COMPANY?

Bhavika: The company culture is one of the best aspects of SOPHIE Company. Everyone is helpful and understanding, and it was easy to approach my supervisors such as Jeanie, whenever I needed additional help. Also, the freedom and opportunity to be super creative were wonderful, as I was always able to try different Tik Tok Trends to better promote the glowiest products. One of the other best things about SOPHIE Company is that I had the chance to experience blog writing. I never had the opportunity to do that, and I can say that I enjoyed it. I loved that it was part of our daily assignments as I received the freedom to write about anything that interests me, whether it be beauty, lifestyle, or fashion. I wrote topics ranging from fashion week to Korean traditional snacks. The opportunity to branch out and write and make Tik Tok videos based on my ideas was a wonderful experience as it pushed my creativity to its max capacity and helped me strengthen my weakness.

Da Sol: The atmosphere was satisfactory. Even if they did one thing, it seemed like they were cooperative to help each other. For example, when packaging the boxes, we hold each other up and work together.

Any last thoughts to share?

Bhavika: Firstly, I am grateful for the opportunity that I had the chance to intern at Sophie Company, as I wanted to do this internship since freshman year, after seeing Ms. Sophie Park come to give a seminar at SUNY Korea. I gained a lot of knowledge and skills that helped enrich my foundation in marketing, especially in content-creating and influencer marketing. I received the confidence that I am a creative person, and I shouldn’t be afraid to be more creative and deliver those creative ideas! Thank you once again for teaching me and helping me enhance my overall career!
