In the Heart of Seoul--The N SEOUL TOWER

You’ve probably heard and seen this familiar tower in most K-dramas. What is all this craze about?

The N SEOUL TOWER, also known today as Namsan Tower, has become both a resting place for Seoul citizens and an attraction spot for tourists. Let’s find out more about it!

Opened since the 1980s, this 236.7m-tall tower still remains one of the most prominent landmarks in the heart of Seoul. It provides one of the most beautiful views of Seoul, located at the highest point of glance in the Namsan Mountain area. As a complex cultural space, this proud landmark provides a variety of media arts and cultural arts. One prominent example would be the “light art” which is a LED technology lighting that changes color to indicate the level of air pollution. The colorful illuminations are the quickest and the easiest way to reach the public. Blue lighting stands for clear days whereas the red stands for high pollution with a microdust warning. To be safe, keep an eye out for the colors on the tower the next time you visit Seoul!

There are different reasons why people still visit the tower until today. People go there to rest, heal or go there just to stare at the city view. Friends, family and loved ones visit the tower to create unforgettable memories, especially, by recording their moments on the “padlocks of love”. The lock symbolizes the importance of love from all over the world regardless of age, gender, culture, region and religion. If you visit the Namsan Tower today, you’ll be shocked at how many locks there are!

Because of this, the tower has also become “the spot” for drama shootings, giving birth to some famous K-drama scenes! The recent webtoon-based tvN drama named “True Beauty” starred Cha Eun Woo with Moon Ga Young on an episode where Ju-kyung (“Moon Ga Young”) went to see the first snow of the year, remembering her promise to meet Su-ho (“Cha Eun Woo”) there.
